Why Become a Certified Instructor

Square Foot Gardening Certified Instructors are vital when it comes to teaching the SFG method and helping people grow their own food.
Mel Bartholomew, creator of Square Foot Gardening, started the Certified Instructor program with in-person seminars in Utah. Since its beginning, over 700 people from around the world have become CIs.
Certified Instructors work with schools, church groups, humanitarian organizations, community gardeners, YMCA programs, and more.
We have updated the CI program to reflect new opportunities afforded by technology and to provide the support and resources needed to continue to teach people to garden in today’s world.
There are a few requirements you must meet and agree to before you purchase Level 2.
- You must be able to build a Square Foot Garden and provide photos of your garden. Don’t forget the grid!
- You must read a copy of either the 2nd or 3rd edition Square Foot Gardening book to pass the module quizzes.
